Many companies stand to benefit from the dramatic rise in sales of items that help prevent and treat global outbreak of Swine Flu cases that has doubled in the U.S.  Presently, these cases have doubled to forty in the U.S. and the cases in Mexico have reached 149 deaths.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised its pandemic alert level as a result of this rapid spread of the flu.

Swine flu is a respiratory disease that infects pigs.  It is caused by type-A influenza and typically leads to outbreaks among these types of animals as described by the CDC.  Based on WHO estimations, three main human flu strains circulate and cause 250,000-500,000 deaths a year.  The WHO describes these outbreaks as seasonal epidemics that appear more frequently beginning in the fall and ending in the spring.
