Nobody likes to clean office carpets.  It’s a huge pain, it’s time consuming and the results can sometimes be less than stellar. The most important thing to remember is…successful removal of office carpet stains is based on quick thinking and action.

Immediately reacting to and treating an office carpet stain through effective steps can leave the carpet looking better, smelling better and lasting significantly longer.

Most office carpets these days have received a stain-resistant treatment which allow most stains to be cleaned up easily provided they are blotted and treated quickly. As such, its important that you use the following helpful tips the next time an office carpet stain needs to be treated and removed.

Cleaning Office Carpet Stains with Water

In terms of the safest option, water is best approach to removing office carpet stains. When tackling dried solid or food items, break them up into pieces or use a spoon to remove as much of the spill as possible. After accomplishing this, vacuum and rinse the carpet stain with water. Once the water has been applied to the stain, blot dry the spot. When liquids, are the culprit, work from the outside towards the center of the stain, blotting with clean paper towels until most of material has been removed. Once again, rinse and blot the stain until dry.  To prevent the stain from getting worse, avoid scrubbing or rubbing the office carpet stain since that can damage the office carpet fiber.

Removing Carpet Stains with Dish Washing Soap

If you run into a tough office carpet stain, a mild solution of tap water and dish washing soap can be used to treat the stain. First, soak a clean cloth in this water and soap solution.  Apply this to the stain and follow the same office carpet stain removal principles as you utilized when cleaning with water. You’ll start by working the soap and water solution into the office carpet gently and then rinse with water till all traces of soap are removed.  Next, you’ll blot dry with paper towels until the entire stain is removed and the office carpet is clean.

Cleaning Carpet That Has Water-based Stains

When a stain is very difficult and just won’t disappear with a soap and water cleaning, use a solution of one cup water mixed with two (2) tablespoons household ammonia.  Follow the same cleaning process as before, however use ordinary, paper towels to blot dry.  To neutralize the ammonia, use a mild vinegar solution made of one cup white vinegar with two (2) cups water.  After treating the spot, work the solution into the office carpet, rinse and blot dry.

Keep in mind, you should never use the ammonia solution to treat tea, coffee and urine stains.  You’ll want to remove these types of office carpet stains using the soap and water solution.  If they can’t be removed with this approach, use the vinegar solution to treat the stain.

If All Else Fails

If the stain is really tough, try using a strong carpet cleaner, other cleaning supplies or hire a professional carpet cleaning service to tackle the problem.  Sometimes this is the fastest and quickest solution to a clean carpet.
