According to research commissioned by Epson, as much as 60 percent of the printer ink contained in a typical inkjet cartridge or ink cartridge is wasted. The survey firm TUV Rheinland was asked to measure how much ink is used up and how much remains in an ink cartridge when the printer claims it’s out of ink. Read more »

HP has set ambitious goals to improve the energy efficiency of its toner printers and use more recycled printer ink materials in their manufacture — and in doing so, HP intends to draw buyers’ attention to the features with a new Eco Highlights labeling plan.

With the launch of five printers and multifunction products, Xerox Corporation makes it easier and more affordable for small and mid-size businesses to get more work done on even the tightest of budgets.

The new offerings range from the $279 Xerox Phaser 3100MFP multifunction printer that prints, copies and scans, to the $1,999 Xerox Phaser 5550 laser printer that speeds printing at a rate of up to 50 pages per minute (ppm). For more features, the new Xerox Phaser 3635MFP multifunction printer, starting at $1,799, is a 35 ppm networked system that includes advanced security options like image overwriting, encryption and authentication tools. During a hectic stretch in the waning days of May, Vyomesh Joshi, Hewlett-Packard’s high-energy printing chief, was darting around Europe and the Middle East.
